“HAWAII FIVE-0” TO UPDATE A FAVORITE EPISODE FROM THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Locations From the Original To Be Used For This Episode
Peter Weller (“RoboCop”) to Direct and Star
CBS’s HAWAII FIVE-0 will again pay tribute to the original series with a reboot of a popular episode from the beloved series which was broadcast more than 39 years ago. Beginning Thursday, Dec. 13, the current production will begin principle photography on an episode titled “Hookman,” based closely on the Emmy Award-winning episode of the same name from the original series.
The current series’ Executive Story Editor, Joe Halpin, wrote the teleplay for the upcoming episode and consulted with the original’s writers, Rod Baker and Glen Olson, not only to explain the current series’ vision of sticking close to the original, but also to get their blessing.
“We at HAWAII FIVE-0 hold the original series in reverence, and to be able to go to their well of incredible storytelling is such an honor,” says Peter Lenkov, Executive Producer of the current incarnation of HAWAII FIVE-0. “Aside from updating a few sign-of-the-times elements, we are using the original as a roadmap to stay true to each and every element that made ‘Hookman’ such a beloved hour of television, even going so far as to secure the same locations used in the original episode.”
“Hookman,” the original series’ Season Six premiere episode (original airdate Sept. 11, 1973), centered around a double amputee out to avenge the loss of his hands by killing the police officers responsible, including McGarrett. In the updated version, McGarrett’s father was one of the officers responsible for his maiming.
Peter Weller (“RoboCop”) will star as the lead villain as well as direct this production. Jason Koger, a double upper amputee, will be stand in for Weller in close-ups of his prosthetic hands. In the original production, Jay J. Armes portrayed the lead villain and was a double amputee himself.
HAWAII FIVE-0 is broadcast Mondays, (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and is a production of CBS Television Studios. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers.
